TLV2 - New sequence: Pride and Prejudice

Today, we started our new sequence dealing with "Pride and Prejudice".
We first studied the poster of Joe Wright's movie, released in 2005.
I first showed you this sentence and you had to anticipate over it.

"Sometimes the last person on earth you want to be with
is the one person you can't be without"

We then briefly described the whole poster and saw that it was an adaptation from a novel written by Jane AUSTEN, a famous English writer.
We then worked on the title, giving a definition of the two terms.
We saw that:
  • Pride can mean a feeling that you are better than other people, in the sense that pride is a fault. Pride can also mean a feeling of pleasure because of what you or your family owns or does.
  • This kind of pride is not a fault.
  • Prejudice is a dislike of someone or something without a good reason.
  • Prejudice can be about social class, or gender, or because we have heard gossip about someone.
  • Perhaps the characters in the novel are proud of their social positions or prejudiced against each other.
These two characteristics would be obstacles to falling in love.

HW: I then gave you the text we will study and you have to answer the 5 first questions for next time.
